Dadia Ecotourism Centre, Evros

The Dadia forest reserve in Evros, Northern Greece, is one of the last refuges for predatory birds in Europe. 36 out of Europe's 38 predatory bird species can be found here.

You can stay at the lodge - which has 20 rooms - at the Ecotourist Centre. This has been built in the local architectural style and includes a restaurant, coffee shop and an Information Centre co-managed by WWF.

There are a variety of eco-tours available. Hiking, visiting traditional settlements, visiting nearby Soufli - famous for its silks as well as its well-preserved 19th c mansions and cobbled streets and the Evros Delta, which forms part of the corridor of migratory birds from northern Europe to and from Africa.

Dadia is 50km north of Alexandroupolis, which has rail, bus and air connections from Athens and Thessaloniki.
